Life has a funny way of surprising us, especially when you’re a car enthusiast with a household brimming with adrenaline, turbochargers, and an expanding collection of wheels. My wife and I are delighted to announce we’re expecting a new addition to our family in December, rounding us up to a family of four. But as we prepare for this journey, we’ve reached a major crossroads—one that I’m sure car lovers and future parents alike can relate to: the classic dilemma of car life versus baby life.

However, before we start thinking about how we’re going to balance track days and nappy changes, we’ve got a race of our own to settle—a gender reveal that will answer the burning question on everyone’s minds: will it be wheels or heels?

Wheels or Heels Gender Reveal Cake – What will it be?

    Choosing the Reveal

We’ve debated keeping the gender a surprise—even to ourselves—but the curiosity and thrill finally got the best of us. After all, there’s a certain fun in being able to say “he” or “she” instead of “it.” Some of our closest family and friends have even been making bets, and with all the speculation, we thought, “Why not have a bit of fun and find out in our own way?”

The Battle of Cars vs. Cradles

So, in the blue corner, we have the turbocharged, track-day excitement of fast cars and all the thrills that come with them. And in the pink corner, the new journey of baby bottles, bedtime stories, and the tiny pitter-patter of feet. The real question is: what’s next for us? Will we see more wheels in the driveway or tiny heels by the door?

Finding Out—Why It Matters (and Why It Doesn’t)

One of the biggest questions we’ve faced as expectant parents is: why find out at all? Well, for us, it’s about creating that first spark of connection and bonding. After losing my dad last year, the thought of having a son feels particularly significant; it would be a chance to pass down memories, stories, and traditions. But at the end of the day, whether it’s a boy or a girl, the most important thing is that our child grows up in a home filled with love, laughter, and a few too many car magazines.

    Bedroom Modifications & Customisation

As any car lover will tell you, a car isn’t truly yours until you’ve personalised it—be it a new exhaust system, rims, or even just a well-chosen air freshener. Similarly, a nursery isn’t complete without a personal touch. Will this nursery be decked out with racing stripes and mini car models, or soft pastel tones with a hint of sparkle? And of course, every baby room deserves a custom car seat for those first big road trips.

    The Practical Daily Drive

People think they’re used to long drives and endless road trips, but nothing truly prepares you for the endurance race of sleepless nights, late-night feeds, and more nappy changes than you can count. Our pit stops might include toy car pit crews or perhaps tiny ballet shoes. Either way, we’re gearing up for the journey.

    The Soundtrack of Parenthood

I’ve always appreciated a good engine note, but a baby crying at 2 a.m.? Now that’s a sound I’m bracing myself for! Will it be the roar of a future car enthusiast or a little one ready to tap their toes to a different beat? Only time will tell.

The Grand Reveal: Hot Wheels or Heels?

And now, the moment we’ve been building up to… drumroll, please…

    Gender reveal cake

And the winner is… Wheels! We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be welcoming a little boy into our family! We can’t wait for him to join us on our next adventure, whether it’s at the track, on the road, or even just around the driveway with his own set of wheels.

Why It’s All Just the Beginning

At the end of the day, we’re simply overjoyed to be adding to our family, whether it was wheels or heels. This next chapter is bound to be an exciting one, filled with shifts from horsepower to baby power. So here’s to balancing car shows with prams, the occasional late-night pit stop, and all the joy that comes with a little one on the way.

Stay tuned as our adventure begins!
