As the sun finally makes an appearance, it’s time to hit the open road. Whether you’re planning a scenic drive or just passing through, there’s one place that deserves a spot on your itinerary—Llandeilo.

Nestled in Carmarthenshire, Wales, Llandeilo is a charming town that sits at the crossing of the River Towy, accessible via the A483 and its picturesque 19th-century stone bridge. Located on the fringes of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it makes for the ideal pit stop, especially if you’re tackling the renowned Black Mountain Pass.

    A Rest Stop with Character

Llandeilo’s high street is packed with independent boutiques, quirky shops, and inviting cafés. But be warned—many of these shops close on Sundays. If you’re planning a visit for some retail therapy, aim for a weekday or Saturday. That said, if you’re simply looking to refuel with some great food and drink, there are still plenty of options available for a Sunday drive.

    Parking & Facilities

For the easiest parking experience, set your sat nav for Llandeilo Car Park (SA19 6HN). It’s a pay-and-display car park, but depending on the day, you might just get lucky with free parking—we found it free on a Sunday! There is also EV charging as well. Conveniently, there are toilet facilities on-site, but don’t forget a 20p coin for access. A handy town map is also available at the car park to help you navigate your way around.

    Seasonal Surprises

Llandeilo has a reputation for putting on a great show at Christmas, with its festive parade being a real highlight. We stumbled upon it by chance last year while en route to Aberystwyth, and it was a fantastic surprise—one worth planning for if you’re in the area during the festive season.

    Refuelling at Pitchfork & Provision

If you’re in need of a tasty bite to eat, Pitchfork & Provision is the place to go. Conveniently located right next to the car park, this artisan bakery specialises in handcrafted bread, savouries, pastries, and cakes

When we visited on a Sunday, they had a children’s menu for under-12s and a small but well-thought-out all-day brunch menu. We opted for the eggs benedict, which was generous in size and incredibly satisfying. The perfectly poached eggs combined with sourdough bread gave it a delicious twist. With a selection of hot and cold drinks and plenty of seating inside and out, it’s the ideal place to refuel before hitting the road again.

For those craving a quick snack or some artisan goodies to take away, their deli counter is well worth a browse.

    Final Thoughts

Llandeilo is more than just a stop-off point—it’s a destination in its own right. Whether you’re after a bite to eat, a leisurely stroll through independent shops, or simply a place to stretch your legs on a road trip, it ticks all the boxes. Next time you’re exploring Wales, be sure to pull over and enjoy everything this charming town has to offer!
