I’ll be honest—there was a time when I’d chuckle at the sight of someone wearing driving gloves. Yet here I am, eating my words with a pair of Café Leather Triton gloves tucked neatly into the glovebox. As I’ve grown more passionate about driving, especially spirited motoring, I’ve come to appreciate the very real benefits these gloves provide.

Not only do they offer improved grip—especially when cornering—but they also provide protection for both your hands and your steering wheel, which is a genuine concern for those of us with Alcantara or vintage wood-rimmed wheels. If you own a classic car with a slender wooden wheel, gloves aren’t just a stylistic choice—they’re practical. Perhaps I’ve done this backwards: I’ve bought the gloves, and now I need the car to match. It’s the classic “chicken or egg” dilemma, I suppose.

    First Impressions

I came across Café Leather thanks to an eerily well-timed ad on Facebook. The gloves caught my eye instantly—they’ve got an undeniably stylish, premium look, and the range of colourways and materials is impressive. However, with so many scam adverts floating around these days, I was naturally sceptical. After a quick Google search, I discovered that high-quality driving gloves aren’t cheap, and many looked remarkably similar to those offered by Café Leather—perhaps a good sign after all.

I had initially been drawn to their crochet styles, but the price pushed me towards the full leather Triton gloves instead. I managed to snag 20% off using a discount code (which, by the way, seems to always be “ending in 48 hours”—a marketing tactic reminiscent of Domino’s). So my advice? Never pay full price—wait for a discount code.

    Ordering & Delivery

My order came to £99.45 including shipping to the UK (£101.70 before discount, £13 delivery via UPS from Madrid). Despite an initial delay notice, the gloves arrived quicker than expected and were beautifully packaged. The unboxing experience felt special, with “Welcome to the family” messaging and a branded wallet revealing the gloves, plus a smart cloth storage bag.

    Quality & Fit

Café Leather boasts about their materials, and rightly so. These gloves are made from 100% vegetable-tanned leather, which promises to develop a unique patina over time. They’re handcrafted in Spain and feature perforated leather for breathability, outside stitching, palm reinforcement for grip, and an elasticated band for a snug fit.

Straight out of the box, the gloves felt soft and luxurious. They also had a light leather scent—not overpowering, but enough to reassure you of the quality. I went for a medium, and the sizing is mostly spot on. That said, my only gripe is with the fingertip design—my fingers don’t quite reach the ends, leaving a bit of an overhang that can be mildly irritating. Whether they’ll stretch and mould with use remains to be seen.

    Performance & Use

Wearing them behind the wheel does make a difference. Grip is noticeably improved, especially on longer drives or during warmer days when sweaty palms can be an issue. The breathability is appreciated, both across the back of the hand and on the palm. Combined with the stylish Roasted & Marlin colourway—a handsome mix of classic brown and a rich blue—these gloves manage to be both functional and fashionable.

    Final Thoughts

In short, I’m genuinely impressed. The Triton gloves by Café Leather feel like a proper investment for those who love driving. They’re stylish, high-quality, and backed by thoughtful branding. At just under £100 delivered (with discount), they’re not cheap—but then again, neither are most good driving gloves.

Now all I need is a classic car to match…
