Fresh off the back of our first drive of the all-electric Renault 5 – where we found it to be so much more than just a retro revival – Renault has officially opened reservations for the next chapter in the car’s electrifying comeback: the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

    And it’s not messing about.

This isn’t just a styling exercise or nostalgia trip. The Turbo 3E is a limited-edition, 540hp electric drift machine that pays homage to the legendary Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, all while launching it head-first into the EV era. With just 1,970 units set to be produced (a nod to the original 1970 Renault 5 launch year), exclusivity is guaranteed.

    What’s Under the Bonnet?

Well, nothing – it’s an EV after all. But beneath the carbon fibre body sits two electric motors powering the rear wheels, producing a whopping 540hp and 700Nm of torque. It’ll go from 0–62mph in just 3.5 seconds (3.9 if you want to play it safe with Drift Mode engaged). This thing is designed to shred tyres, not just silently scoot around town.

    Styling That Screams Rally Royalty

Fans of the original Renault 5 Turbo will appreciate the visual nods: exaggerated wheel arches, aggressive front and rear bumpers, and a boxy silhouette that channels peak Group B energy. But this is no museum piece. With oversized spoilers, digital displays and bold graphics, it feels like a concept car let loose on the street.

    The Price of Exclusivity

It’s no surprise that this level of madness comes with a price tag to match. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E starts at €155,000, with a €50,000 deposit. That puts it firmly in the collector or hardcore enthusiast category – though with only 1,970 units available globally, that’s exactly who it’s aimed at.

    See It for Yourself

Want to see it in the flesh before placing your reservation? The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be on display at L’Atelier Renault on the Champs-Élysées in Paris starting 15 May 2025. It’s the perfect setting to take in its wild design and get a taste of what’s to come from Renault’s new wave of performance EVs.

    Renault 5 Turbo 3E

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be on display at the recently opened RNLT stores in Paris, Brussels, Rotterdam, Berlin, Milan, Madrid, London and Riyadh, allowing potential customers and the general public to enjoy a closer look. It will then go on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 10 to 13 July 2025.

The Renault 5 may have made its name as a nimble and fun-to-drive icon, but the Turbo 3E takes things to a whole new level. It’s loud, lairy, and undeniably special – the kind of car that turns heads and starts conversations. Whether it’s destined for your garage or just your dream list, this is one limited edition that’s hard to ignore.
