Last year, I shared something incredibly personal—my journey to find and hopefully bring home my late father’s beloved car. The blog post, “A Year Without Dad and My Quest to Bring His Car Back Home”, struck a chord with many readers. It’s a story rooted in love, loss, and the special connection we often have with the cars that carry our most treasured memories.
Since publishing that blog, I’ve been doing everything I can to track the car down. But sadly, I’m still searching.
To remind everyone, I’m looking for a 2007 Renault Megane Cabriolet, registration CA07 NCY – or as we called it, Cancy.

What I’ve Done So Far
After sharing the original story, I pushed it out across my social media channels, hoping it might catch the eye of someone who’d seen it, owned it, or maybe even knew where it was. The response was warm and supportive—but no solid leads came through.
I’ve since joined and posted in multiple Renault Megane owner groups on Facebook, tailoring my appeal to different communities in the hope that Cancy might be recognised or remembered by someone. Every couple of days, I check Facebook Marketplace, Autotrader, and eBay, keeping an eye out for any listings that could match. Some come close—same year, same colour, even similar trim—but they’re not the one.
In fact, during a recent work meeting in Barry, South Wales, I had a moment where my heart skipped. I passed a Renault Megane that looked identical to Cancy. The same colour. The same year. The same wheels and even interior trim. But there was one key detail that didn’t match—a small character difference on the reg. Close, but not close enough.
Where Things Stand Now
I’ve been keeping tabs on the car’s MOT history, which has been a bittersweet way to feel connected to it. It’s clear someone has still been using it—it passed tests as recently as last year. But now, the MOT is overdue. It lapsed in April.
That could mean a few things. Perhaps the car’s finally become uneconomical to repair and has been taken off the road. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s currently undergoing work—being restored, repaired, or prepped for another test. I can’t help but hold onto hope that it’s the latter.
I’ve even revisited the original garage that helped facilitate the sale from my parents to another trader years ago. I was hoping for a paper trail or lead, but unfortunately, it seems the trail has gone cold.
Can You Help?
So, I’m putting the call out once again.
If you’ve seen a silver 2007 Renault Megane Cabriolet with the reg CA07 NCY, or have any clue where it might be, please get in touch. Even the smallest bit of information could bring me a step closer to reuniting with my dad’s car.
You can reach me directly at [email protected] or drop me a message on Instagram.
And if you haven’t yet read the original post, it explains why this search means so much to me. It’s more than just a car—it’s a connection to my dad, and a small part of him I hope to bring home one day.
Thanks for reading—and for sharing.
